CalcuPK

UAF CGPA calculator

This calculator turns your UAF course grades into a semester GPA and a cumulative CGPA. GPA is total quality points divided by total attempted credit hours, where quality points are grade point times credit hours. Enter the grade points printed on your UAF result card for an exact result — that avoids depending on percentage bands, which CalcuPK could not confirm against an official UAF document.

Previous record (for CGPA)

Both are needed — a CGPA cannot be weighted without the credit hours behind it.

Repeat a course — impact

Assumes the new attempt replaces the old grade. Confirm your university's repeat policy — some average both attempts.

Failing grades still count toward attempted credit hours at UAF undergraduate, which lowers the GPA even though no credit is earned.

How this calculation works

Every course contributes quality points, which are its grade point multiplied by its credit hours. Your GPA is the total quality points divided by the total credit hours you attempted. That weighting is why a 4-credit course moves your average roughly twice as much as a 2-credit one, and why a GPA is never a plain average of grade points.

  • Non-credit and audit courses are excluded from both the top and bottom of the fraction.
  • Failing grades still count toward attempted credit hours, so they lower the average even though they earn no credit.
  • A repeated course is treated as replacing its earlier attempt — the old quality points and credit hours come out before the new grade goes in.

Note on the grading scale. This UAF undergraduate scale uses A=4 (80–100%), B=3 (65–79%), C=2 (50–64%), D=1 (40–49%) and F below 40%, with a 40% pass mark. Enter the grade points from your UAF result card for an exact CGPA. Postgraduate programmes and any newer UAF regulation may use different bands — confirm against your own transcript.

Formula

Quality points = grade point × credit hours
GPA = Σ quality points ÷ Σ attempted credit hours
CGPA = (previous quality points + current quality points) ÷ total credit hours

Worked example

Three courses: a 3-credit course graded 3.70, a 4-credit course graded 3.00 and a 2-credit course graded 4.00.

  • 3 × 3.70 = 11.10 quality points
  • 4 × 3.00 = 12.00 quality points
  • 2 × 4.00 = 8.00 quality points
  • Total: 31.10 quality points over 9 credit hours
  • GPA = 31.10 ÷ 9 = 3.46

Adding a previous record

If you already held a 3.00 CGPA over 60 credit hours, that is 180 previous quality points. Adding the 31.10 above gives 211.10 over 69 credit hours, for a cumulative CGPA of 3.06. Notice how little one semester moves a long record — that is the arithmetic, not pessimism.

Why your actual result may differ

Universities differ on percentage bands, on whether grading is absolute or relative to class performance, on how repeats are treated, and on which courses count toward a degree. Departments within one university can differ too. Your official transcript is always the authority.

Common mistakes

  • Averaging grade points without weighting them by credit hours.
  • Entering a previous CGPA without the completed credit hours it covers.
  • Including non-credit or audit courses in the credit-hour total.
  • Assuming a percentage-to-grade-point table found online is UAF's official one.
  • Entering percentages against the disputed bands instead of grade points from your result card.

Key terms

GPA
Grade Point Average — total quality points divided by total attempted credit hours for a single semester, on a scale that is usually 4.00.
CGPA
Cumulative Grade Point Average — the same calculation as GPA but across every completed semester, weighted by credit hours.
Quality points
A course's grade point multiplied by its credit hours. Summed across courses and divided by total credit hours, quality points produce the GPA.
Credit hour
A unit of a course's weight, usually reflecting one hour of lectures per week for a semester. Higher-credit courses affect the GPA more.

Frequently asked questions

Grade points, taken straight from your UAF result card. That makes the CGPA exact, because the arithmetic — quality points divided by credit hours — is standard and not in dispute. Percentage entry requires a percentage-to-grade-point table, and CalcuPK has not been able to confirm UAF's table against an official university document.
