Is a high aggregate enough to get admission?

Not by itself. You must first clear the hard eligibility gates, which are separate from merit — for example a minimum 60% in HSSC for most medical admissions, 65% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or a 50% minimum aggregate at UET Lahore. After that, admission depends on the closing merit for your category, campus and programme in that particular year.

Does Matric always count?

No. It carries 10% for medical admissions and NUST, 17% at UET Lahore and FAST engineering, and 30% at UAF. UET Lahore's non-ECAT programmes weight it at 25%, and some Punjab University programmes fold it in at a quarter of the Intermediate total rather than as a flat percentage.

Do Hafiz-e-Quran marks still apply?

It depends entirely on the institution. For medical admissions the 20-mark award was revoked and appears in no current PMDC, Punjab, Sindh, KP or NUMS policy. UET Lahore, by contrast, still awards 0–20 additional marks after a proficiency test, and UAF awards 20. Never assume one rule carries across sectors.

This calculator applies the PMDC admission formula for the 2025–26 session: 10% of your Matric percentage, 40% of your FSc percentage and 50% of your MDCAT percentage, added together.

NUMS applies 10% Matric, 40% FSc and 50% entry test, but the test is its own NUMS MDCAT, not the national one.

Common mistakes

Using FSc Part-I and Part-II marks where the university's formula specifies Part-I only, as NUST and UET Lahore do.
Entering an entry-test score against the wrong total — MDCAT is out of 180, NUMS out of 200, ECAT out of 400.
Checking only the aggregate and missing a hard eligibility floor that disqualifies the application outright.

Key terms

Admission aggregate: A single percentage that combines your Matric, Intermediate and entry-test marks using the weights a university publishes. It is used to rank applicants on a merit list.
GPA: Grade Point Average — total quality points divided by total attempted credit hours for a single semester, on a scale that is usually 4.00.
CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average — the same calculation as GPA but across every completed semester, weighted by credit hours.
Closing merit: The aggregate of the last candidate admitted to a programme in a given year. It is set by supply and demand each cycle and is not a fixed pass mark.

Frequently asked questions

It reflects how much each institution trusts board results versus its own test. NUST weights its NET at 75%, so the test dominates. Medical admissions weight MDCAT at 50%. UET Lahore weights ECAT at only 33% and FSc Part-I at 50%. The same candidate can rank very differently at two universities purely because of these weights.
